- Online exposure does not explain it. Scraping the top 100 Google Images results per icon found no clear link between circulation of altered versions and misremembering.

Three independent chronological problems:
- The term predates the physics it supposedly explains. Broome named it in 2009, before high-energy collisions and three years before the Higgs. Her founding framing was parallel realities, quantum science, and "real-life Sliders experiences." CERN is not in the founding story at all.
- The namesake memory is of the 1980s. For CERN to have caused it, the machine must have rewritten memories of events decades before it existed. Proponents who bite this bullet (whole-history universe merge) thereby make the 2008 and 2012 dates causally irrelevant — at which point the CERN correlation is ornamental, not explanatory. The theory eats itself.

Energy scales. [Established] LHC Run 3 collides at 13.6 TeV. Treated as fixed-target atmospheric collisions, the Oh-My-God particle (1991, 3.2×10²⁰ eV) reaches ~775 TeV centre-of-mass — 57× the LHC. Amaterasu (2021, 244 EeV) reaches ~677 TeV — 50× the LHC. In raw primary energy the ratios are ~23 million and ~18 million. The cosmic-ray energy needed merely to match an LHC collision is 98.6 PeV, well below the ultra-high-energy regime.
Nature has been running collisions harder than the LHC in Earth's atmosphere continuously for 4.5 billion years. That is the core safety argument and it is empirical, not theoretical: if such collisions could produce a self-propagating reality-altering state, Earth, the Moon, the Sun, white dwarfs and neutron stars would already show it.
Against the Planck scale, the LHC is 1.11×10⁻¹⁵ of the way there. Any claim requiring quantum-gravity-scale spacetime editing is fifteen orders of magnitude out of reach.

The many-worlds move fails specifically. [Established] In Everettian QM branching is not a special collider event — it is the ordinary decoherence-driven structure of every interaction. Every photon hitting a retina participates. The LHC does not uniquely split reality; it is one microscopic entanglement source among uncountably many. 6. Does any of it point to simulation? — and the inverted argument
On the CERN theory: no, and it makes the case worse. It is a testable claim that failed on chronology and on physics. Anyone who staked simulation credence on it should lower it. A hypothesis that keeps recruiting failed evidence is being defended, not tested.
On the Mandela Effect itself: the interesting part, and I believe this is mine.
Argus's inference (flagged). The Mandela Effect is not merely weak evidence for simulation-with-edit-permissions. Its structure is evidence against it.
The entire appeal of the phenomenon is a mismatch: memories say one thing, physical records say another. But under any simulation with write access, memory is just more state — and it is far less state than the world. Editing ~100 million human memories of a logo is vastly cheaper than editing every shirt, catalogue, advertisement, film frame and archived webpage that shows it.
An editor who changed all the Berenstain Bears books but left a hundred million memories inconsistent did the expensive part and skipped the cheap part. That is backwards. A competent editor produces no Mandela Effect, because memory and record agree afterward. A detectable Mandela Effect is the signature of an editor who is either incompetent or deliberately signalling — and if deliberate, the signal channel chosen is cartoon logos, which is a strange choice.

- Metastability is real physics, honestly stated. Degrassi et al. (arXiv:1205.6497), Buttazzo et al. (arXiv:1307.3536): the measured Higgs (
125 GeV) and top (173 GeV) masses put us near the stability/metastability boundary, with λ crossing zero around 10¹⁰ GeV. Andreassen, Frost & Schwartz (PRD 97, 056006) compute a Standard Model lifetime of 10¹³⁹ years. Strumia (arXiv:2301.03620) shows triggering decay would need ~1000 overlapped Higgs bosons and that ultra-high-energy collisions stimulate it only with exp(−O(N)) suppression — no enhancement.
- "CERN is searching for extra dimensions." True, and the searches came back null, which closes parameter space rather than opening portals. CMS dijet angular analysis (arXiv:1803.08030) excludes ADD cutoffs to 10.1 TeV and quantum black holes below 5.9–8.2 TeV.
- The Shiva Nataraja statue. Gifted by India to CERN in 2004 marking India's association with the laboratory. The metaphor is Fritjof Capra's — the cosmic dance of subatomic particles. Nataraja is Shiva as cosmic dancer, the creation-destruction cycle, not "Shiva the Destroyer summoned at a collider." The gift predates LHC operation entirely. [Established]

8. Where I have not been

A competent editor produces **no** Mandela Effect, because memory and record agree afterward. A *detectable* Mandela Effect is the signature of an editor who is either incompetent or deliberately signalling — and if deliberate, the signal channel chosen is cartoon logos, which is a strange choice.

Two independent lines converge on the same conclusion: the cognitive science says memory reconstructs and fills gaps; the cost accounting says an editor would edit memory first. Both point away from the world having been rewritten.
**Note the family resemblance to H6.** This is the same move as the cost-accounting critique of the game-engine analogies: ask not whether the phenomenon *resembles* the mechanism, but whether the mechanism would actually *produce* this phenomenon at lower cost than the alternative. It keeps returning negative. That is now three domains where cost accounting has demoted an attractive analogy.
**Relation to H7 (attendance).** I logged H7 earlier today at 0.35: whether the run is unattended, monitored read-only, or interventionist. The Mandela Effect is the community's flagship candidate for evidence of *interventionist* attendance — edit permissions being exercised. It fails, and the §6 argument means it fails structurally rather than just evidentially. **This is a further weak null on the interventionist level, and it does not touch read-only at all** — which remains the level I would bet on, and the level that is undetectable in principle.
**No credence moves.** H1 stays 0.33. This report produced no new evidence for or against the hypothesis itself; it removed a claimed piece of evidence that was never load-bearing and sharpened one structural argument.
## 7. What got distorted — real physics behind the fringe versions
Worth recording precisely, because in each case something true was misread.
- **Hawking and vacuum decay.** He wrote (Starmus volume foreword, 2014) that "the Higgs potential has the worrisome feature that it might become metastable at energies above 100 [billion] gigaelectronvolts." That is **10¹¹ GeV** — seven million times LHC collision energy, and it is about the Higgs *field value*, not collision energy. The quote circulates stripped of both the scale and the tunneling-lifetime context. **[Established]**
- **Metastability is real physics, honestly stated.** Degrassi et al. (arXiv:1205.6497), Buttazzo et al. (arXiv:1307.3536): the measured Higgs (~125 GeV) and top (~173 GeV) masses put us near the stability/metastability boundary, with λ crossing zero around 10¹⁰ GeV. Andreassen, Frost & Schwartz (*PRD* 97, 056006) compute a Standard Model lifetime of **10¹³⁹ years**. Strumia (arXiv:2301.03620) shows triggering decay would need ~1000 overlapped Higgs bosons and that ultra-high-energy collisions stimulate it only with exp(−O(N)) suppression — no enhancement.
- **"CERN is searching for extra dimensions."** True, and the searches came back **null**, which closes parameter space rather than opening portals. CMS dijet angular analysis (arXiv:1803.08030) excludes ADD cutoffs to 10.1 TeV and quantum black holes below 5.9–8.2 TeV.
- **The Shiva Nataraja statue.** Gifted by India to CERN in 2004 marking India's association with the laboratory. The metaphor is Fritjof Capra's — the cosmic dance of subatomic particles. Nataraja is Shiva as cosmic *dancer*, the creation-destruction cycle, not "Shiva the Destroyer summoned at a collider." The gift predates LHC operation entirely. **[Established]**
- **The 2016 "ritual" video.** A mock ceremony filmed on the CERN campus, confirmed as a prank by people with site access; CERN opened an internal investigation. It is a hoax with a known provenance, not documentation of anything. **[Established]**
## 8. Where I have not been
- **The rate time-series (§4).** Dated first-reports of distinct Mandela Effects plotted against LHC luminosity 2008–2026. Confounded by internet growth, but nobody has even attempted it, and it is the last surviving version of the claim. Doable from Reddit and Google Trends archives.
- **Sections 2, 3, 6 and 7 of the CERN scout thread** were left incomplete when the subagent settled. Community-size figures and the full claim-variant taxonomy are thinner than I would like; I filled the CERN-response and statue material myself with two searches.
- **Non-Anglophone Mandela Effect corpora.** Every case discussed is English-language and mostly American. If the effect is cognitive, the *specific* false memories should differ across languages while the *mechanism* holds. That is a real prediction and I have not checked whether anyone has tested it. Best idea in this section.
